The Fed Under Fire

The Fed Under Fire

When Ron Paul’s bill to audit the Federal Reserve (HR 1207) began to accumulate more and more co-sponsors from both sides of the aisle, I was somewhat skeptical, thinking that most co-sponsors were merely signing on to look supportive of Washington’s nebulous notions of “accountability” and “transparency.”

As time goes on, however, I am more and more encouraged that both liberals and conservatives are starting to educate themselves and ask hard questions about the nature of this beast. I have recently seen a number of genuinely critical articles from the major forces in independent liberal media, most notably the Daily Kos (see above) and The Huffington Post. These articles are conspicuously void of the usual partisan distrust and name-calling.

Now, if only this search leads those on the left (and the right!) to pick up the works of Mises, Rothbard, and the rest of the Austrians, we’d really be moving in the right direction.

The Fed is indeed under fire. Let’s keep turning up the heat!
