Our Favorite Unelectable Kook

by Mike Phenow

For years now (has it really been years, already?) I have been trying to share with folks the principled ideas of one soft-spoken congressman from Texas. Without fail, these attempts are met with contempt, disgust, unfounded skepticism, and insult. People unfamiliar with Ron Paul, his policies, his principles, or his record were astoundingly quick to apply to him labels such as kook, unelectable, fringe, extremist, and a score of other derisive epithets.

Since his loss in the last presidential election, assisted by flagrant abuses by the media and even his own party, and since recent events have shown the uncanny accuracy of his many dire predictions, people are starting to change their tune.

Just the other day, the popular socialist blog The Huffington Post ran an article entitled “Ron Paul: The World’s Most Popular U.S. Congressman,” explaining that, contrary to expectations, his popularity and influence has only continued to grow, rather than wane.

And just the day before that most eminent of socialist rags ran a forum entitled “California Bailout, Impossible or Inevitable?” in which they not only asked him to participate, but featured his commentary first.

What is this world coming to? Its senses perhaps? One can only hope. And hope dearly that we aren’t too late.
